The Collapsed Wave pays tribute to the wave of guitar-oriented instrumental rock as practiced by Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, John McLaughlin, Sonny Sharrock, and the electric music of Miles Davis. These were wonderfully turbulent and heady times for music with new directions for guitar revealed by virtuosic players of expansive vision. While maintaining his own unique style, on The Collapsed Wave, Sharp channels guitar DNA from these masters using an array of Strats, Les Pauls, steel guitar, a Vietnamese ghita phím lõm on Uchuu, mandola and mandocello on Planetesimal, plus some Telecaster strangling onTelekinesis. The album includes a stirring and passionate tribute to Jeff Beck composed soon after his passing. The grooves are organic and contemporary with Sharp's bass playing (using a classic Hagstrom 8 and the bass half of his first doubleneck) locking in with his arrangements of the drumming and drum samples from Don McKenzie.
